After a day in Taipei, I realized that it could get really chilly and wet here. It was supposed to be about 19-22 degrees celcius but I guess the winds and rains made it cold for a tourist like me that came from warm, tropical, sunny Singapore.
Today, we told ourselves that we would start our day late today since Taiwan ‘blossoms’ only around noontime.
We decided to visit Ximending today. It was one stop away from where we stayed.
^The view that will excite you once you exit Ximending metro station.
Ximending is a happening, colorful and lively place. Definitely for the young and hippy and for the ones who need retail therapy. You can also catch a movie here if you are free.
^Plenty of cosmetics and beauty shops around.
We came across a shop selling all kinds of braised foods as well as local produce.
^Found the hotel that my siblings and I stayed in when we were in Taipei in 2007!
^Rain or shine the vendors selling street food will be there.
Here was one of the street food that we saw on TV and decided to try!
^Popiah with shaved peanut/sugar and with coconut ice-cream… Heavenly!
I was really craving for TW’s famous shaved ice but could not really find one here in Ximending. After walking around, we chanced upon this quiet 2-storey cafe called Mango Cha Cha selling it.
^Recommended by JJlin?!
^The mango LOOKs good but it was sourish. Honestly, this dessert did not satisfy my craving. Lesson learnt: No queue (or even no business) = not nice.
Talk about shopping… Uniqlo fans get excited! Here in the heart of Ximending lies a HUGE Uniqlo building. 6 storeys of shopping!!!
Realized Uniqlo worked together with many designers…
^We offered to buy Jas this ‘cute’ PJs! ;p
They also have many guy polo T-shirts in all colors, patterns and designs. The hubby went ‘crazy’ here.
^Trying one of the many fashion specs on display… Does this suit me??
^How thoughtful to wrap our shopping bag in plastic as it was raining outside!
It was all in all quite fun to walk through Ximending (could have been more fun if it was not raining that day)… And I can’t wait to share with you about the amazing hotpot restaurant that we discovered here in my next post! Stay tuned…
