Japan Trip Day 0 – Getting to Osaka + Hotel Villa Fontaine Shinsaibashi

The truth is… I am feeling kinda lazy and honestly tired to blog about my Japan trip. So, I will mostly just let the pictures do the talking and make some comments. Enjoy!

We boarded our plane at about 11am and landed at Kansai airport at 8+pm. In between, we had to transit at HK and stay at the airport for 1.5 hours. Now guess what we did?

EAT!

DSC01306

Humongous meatball kway teow!

And, at Hongkong, you must definitely have CONGEE :)

DSC01307

My favorite pi dan chok (century egg and pork porridge).

When we landed in Japan, we felt the ‘coolness’ of the country. It was about 15 degree celcius! Compared to SG’s 27 degrees…!

The first place we visited here… are the toilets. The toilets in Japan are very clean and plentiful!

Most of the female cubicles come with a baby seat…

DSC01308

With toilet seat sanitizer…

DSC01309

And with gadgets at the side of the toilet bowl to help you enjoy a cleaner, more sanitized toilet experience. :)

Some toilets even have warm seats for the cold/chilly weather. Nice…

Japan’s toilets are one indication of a 1st world nation.

Next thing you will notice – Vending machineS. Everywhere and anywhere. I’ve seen machines dispensing hot (bottled and canned) drinks and cold drinks, ice-cream, instant noodles, food etc. AMAZING.

@ the airport, we bought a Yen$3,800 (=S$56) Kansai 2-day pass which includes the pricey train ride from airport to our hotel @ Shinsaibashi. It covers all subway rides in Osaka and the greater Kansai region which includes Kyoto, Nara (think deers) and Kobe (think yummy beef).

We were given the below guide book which highlighted the various places of attraction in Kansai region. The pass as well as coupons inside this guide book gave us some freebies and discounts to certain places. Worth it esp if you know you are going to travel alot!

Now look at the railway lines here. Thank God SG’s one is much less complicated! Japan has so many different operators in charge of the various networks. You think transiting from east-west line to north-east line @ Dhoby Ghaut or Outram is tiring? Wait till you come to Japan! You might have to change several times and because there are different operators, you got to check in and check out, walk to the different stations which are a distance away from one another!

I love their train seats! All cushioned and comfortable!

Took some pictures on the long train ride from Kansai airport to our hotel. We took about an hour plus.

Dun ask me why Jared looked like that….

We girls are excited to ‘conquer’ the new land!

Our hotel was Villa Fontaine Shinsaibashi. The hotel was just adjacent to a shopping street at Shinsaibashi as well as many branded shops such as Gucci, Chanel etc.

The hotel room which we were to spend our 4 nights was really cosy but COMPACT. But honestly not a bad deal for S$138 per night.

Here’s our bed-

Our desk in front of the bed.

And our ‘spacious’ toilet. (It just keeps on getting smaller….)

After putting down our bags, our stomachs were yelling out for food. As the shops in Osaka closes rather early (about 7-8pm for shopping and some F&B outlets), we went to a 24-hour convenience store which was 5-minute walk away. It was called ‘AM , PM’. Hmm… aptly described but seemed like they couldn’t think of a better English name. Limited Vocab. HAHA!

Anyway, look at this!

A book store?

Supermarket?

DSC01323

No! It’s our wonderful convenient store! Their stores beat ours hands down! You can even find shiseido makeup travel kit here!

Now look at some of the food we bought that night…

DSC01326

Some omelette noodle with loads of cabbage and teriyaki sauce. It costs S$8!

And look at this packaged 2-slice bread….

DSC01325

It comes very soft and without the edges AND within a slice, it actually contains butter and maple syrup. SO NICE!!! They even have tuna, chocolate etc breads like these! Gosh… I could eat this for breakfast everyday for the next 10 years of my life!

Nothing much on Day 0 when we touched down…. Soon after eating our suppers, zhou gong came to look for us….

Update you more another day. And hopefully my guest blogger will help me blog!

I can feel it finally!

Yeap, the feeling overwhelmed me last week @ Week 19. As I was on board the airplane to Japan.

I guess Baby J was so excited about traveling and moved so hard that I could finally feel him/her! :) COOL.

I would describe the feeling as if Baby J was cycling….

baby-on-bike

Of course without the bike.

So, I am really overjoyed to be able to feel Baby J engaging in his/her activities inside my belly. I often think to myself and feel amazed that I am actually carrying another life inside of me now.

But, I think I am not looking forward to him/her kicking me out of my wonderful sleep at night. When that happens, I would definitely whine about it here.

In the meantime, I am enjoying his/her wonderful baby movements every time I feel it… like now. :)

My babymoon :)

I know you’ve heard of honeymoons before. I missed my honeymoon in Europe! But have you heard of a babymoon before?

I saw the definition:

“n. a planned period of calm spent together by a just-born baby and its parents; occasionally, time spent by parents without their baby; (hence) a vacation or holiday taken by a pregnant woman and her partner.”

Well, sounds like an excuse for a pregnant mother to just get away huh?

Yes, that’s me! And I am going for my possibly last freed-up holiday with hubby and good buddies actually. I am really going to treasure this holiday!

And yes! We are going to…

japan

The land of the Rising Sun – Japan! Hubby heard from his Japanese colleague that the Sakuras have not bloomed yet so it’s very possible we will get to see it this coming week!

I am really excited for this break. Will definitely blog about our trip to this beautiful land! Till next week… Sayounara!

Asian Male version of Susan Boyle!

Welcome Taiwan’s Lin Yu Chun!

Hubby says God is fair.. Whatever’s lacking in the looks department, God made it up to him by giving him a great Talent!

Well, I am more encouraging. Put him on a strict diet and exercise plan, give him a new hairstyle. new clothes. get rid of the mole… I think he’s got LOTS of potential!

Watch out world for LIN YU CHUN!

April Babies!

Yesterday Menghow’s departments ie Graphic, Publications, Office Admin and my HR went for a lunch at Crystal Jade to celebrate April Babes’ and Hunk’s birthdays!

I discovered that even Crystal Jade’s PLAIN porridge is DELICIOUS! It was so good that I gobbled down the whole bowl, many mouthfuls without any other side dishes!

Anyway, wanna wish the babes and hunk HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

With the graphics people involved, photos will NEVER look bad ever!

Easter, then it’s bye bye Week 17

We had a tremendous Easter celebration service this weekend with a fantastic drama production- Life Book.

Our Easter drama never fails to …

1. Make me laugh with the 1-2 funny scenes especially with Adrian and gang dancing and singing replaced lyrics to the latest hot tunes. This year they danced to Gaga.

2. Make me appreciate the dedication and commitment of the drama crew.

3. Make me wow at the talents and creativity of the the drama crew. They out-do themselves each year and it’s always different of course except for the crucifixion part. And this year, I really think Best Actor would have to go to Zhisen for acting Mr. Loo aka Lucifer. He really portrayed evil very well… especially since the role totally contradicts his faith in God.

2. Remind me of the GREAT love of my Savior Jesus Christ. One tweet I read said “It was love, not the nails, that hung Jesus to the Cross.” Thank you Jesus for dying on the Cross so that I can live.

So Happy Belated Easter everyone! It’s a day worth celebrating indeed!

And…. after this weekend, today, I am at Week 17 progressing on to Week 18! :)

The weeks are beginning to fly past faster. This week, an article read that Baby is the size of …

Guess the vegetable/fruit of the week?

.

.

.

.

sweet potato

Ta-da! A sweet potato. Yup. I tried to console myself by finding the biggest picture I can find. I mean, how big can a sweet potato be? After 17 weeks, baby is still smaller than a watermelon?

I want to see ‘watermelon’ soon…. like next week!
