Aston's

I finally went shopping today with my favorite shopping pal- Val! I had taken a long Sabbath from shopping and today was a good 'work out'!

After spending about 3.5 hours shopping, we met Dan up and went for a planned dinner @ Aston's @ Cathay.

This is my first time at this restaurant and I've always heard about its good Western food @ low prices.

I was told that Aston's do not accept reservations and you got to go early to avoid long queues.

True enough, Dan reached the place at 7pm and there was already a snakey queue outside the restaurant that was situated on the 4th floor.

It was easier for couples to get a seat there since there were more 2-seaters in this franchise.

By the time we got our seat, it was already 7:36pm. When we took our seats, the queue outside was still v long.

crowded

It was also not surprising to see many young people in the crowd because of the value-for-money good food.

For this particular outlet, I found the place sparsely furnished in a oldish wood theme. The tables were quite near each other with a simple lamp hanging above. It reminded me of a low class version of Kenny Rogers except there were servers/waiters.

rest

When I saw the menu, I was really happy to see the very affordable prices. (:

Drinks eg: Juices and soft drinks were mostly $1.80. (But plain water is served at $0.30 a cup)

Sides (Cold sides- Potato salad, coleslaw, pasta salad etc; Hot sides- Mashed potato, garden veg, tasty rice, etc) cost $1.80 each.

Mushroom soup costs $2.80 and comes with complimentary garlic bread.

Set meals consisted of a meat and 2 sides of your choice

The chicken sets cost $6.50 to $10+, fish sets cost $7.20 to $10+. Steaks cost $11.50 onwards and the other meats eg pork chops and ribs were $10-$20+. Of course the better cuts of beef eg the Wagyu cost $40+ and above.

The various Spaghetti sets come with mushroom soup and the cost range from below $10 to below $20.

Best thing is, there is NO service charge. (:

So here are the food we ordered.

Iced tea

Quite a big glass...

MR

Not the Campbell's type. It was also thick and yummy.

OR

Pathetic 7 pieces. But then again, it was only $1.80...

my food

I wanted something healthy and expected my fish to be as tasteless as its name. But it turned out to be quite delicious! The sauce on the fish definitely helped.

dan

Dan's order was called 'Double Up'. This meant that he could choose any 2 types of chicken on the menu. He ordered very healthy sides to compensate for his Double portion of chicken. This meal costs only $10.50. Absolutely value for $$!

Val also ordered the same thing...

val

The total bill came up to only about $39 (for 3 persons)!

So overall, here are my ratings:

Price: start startstartstarthalf staf

Ambience: startstart

(80%) Women's Meeting

Yesterday, the men went for Men's meeting- 'Men United' @ JW with Ps Phil. I thought the name for the meeting was really cool- Men United.

I saw Lucas' update on Facebook yesterday. He chioed CHC guys to join him wear Man U jersey to the Conference. I hope he garnered enough support to be seen among the thousands!

Well, I think the Conference did my boys good! One of my sec 2 member said he now knows 'there is a mighty man inside every man'. I could almost hear him ROAR! HAHAHAHA!

Anyway, that left us gals (and a few of the younger boys) to have our own CG meeting that night.

I was thinking what a great opportunity to do something really girlie since the boys are not around. I cracked my brains and finally decided to do a mini-makeup class (to be conducted by Cicil) and a manicure/pedicure session!

I was so excited I went Watson's to shop for the nail stuffs!

stuffs

I was serious about it!

So that night, we had a great CG meeting. The group comprised of 23 gals and 4 boys. It was a 80% female crowd and I think we sang 2 octaves higher than usual!

We had fun & fellowship...

Then, it was time to start my service. I was feeling so excited!

When I called out for volunteers (aka guinea pigs), no one responded... I think they were shy.

So I pulled Flora to come and test my (not so good) skills! Yeah!

DSCF2363

I filed her nails, applied the hand & body lotion on her hands, applied base coat, 2 layers of GLITTERY BLUE nail polish and top coat. I felt so PRO! My members said I also looked pro. (:

Thank God Flora had never did a manicure before... So she did not mind my lack of skills. But I am not a bad amateur!

Before long, the gals started to be drawn to my corner and we started painting one another's nails!

There was someone who did not have much toenails and someone with NO toenails. The other gals painted on their skin where their toenails should be so that it appeared as if they HAD toenails! That was how excited we all were...!

At the end of the whole night, most of my girls had similar nails as me. (: Glittery nails!

It was a fun and girly night! Although we did miss the guys alittle, but a girls' night once in a while is really quite fun!

Gals Unite! (((:

Singaporeans are busy people. Sometimes we just work away and forget about people around us.

Last week, I received a surprise card with an encouraging message from a friend. It was really heart-warming to know that someone appreciates me!

So, don't let pass-it-on cards get extinct. Start letting your loved ones know you notice and appreciate them. (:

My dear dear also surprised me with breakfast on the actual day!

He also personally shopped for 2 BEAUTIFUL dresses! It's an accomplishment for him... cos he normally buys stuff, not shop for them! (: Love u loads dear!

MY CG

Upon reaching home from my family dinner that fateful Sunday, at about 10+pm, I saw clues @ outside my house....

clues

O boy, the clue says Let the fun begin @ the playground (downstairs my house). Please change to comfy footwear...

My 1st thought was "O man!!! Do I need to work out??"

When I left the house, an object jumped out at me at the turn of my corridor!

shocked

I was so shocked, I jumped to the other corner too!

WONG SEE WAN!

We even took a picture after I cooled down.

She made me look for more clues @ the playground. Made me slide, made me do aerobics @ GJ's house (which was situated in the next block), made me search for more clues @ rooftop carpark,

which finally led me to a sepak tekraw court next to my house....

There I spotted some mysterious, alien looking beings....

us

There, they celebrated my birthday,

card

and made me blow a jumbo balloon to read a message on it!

ballon

After that Yongle,Wilson and WQ gave a speech each. It was the greatest miracle because these boys are 'men of few words', and they generously gave me long speeches that night! THANKS guys!

And so they finally sent me home. "Bye guys! Thanks for the great (but tiresome) night!"

bye

I thought I could rest in peace.

... when Jared asked me go iron his office shirt cos he needs to go back office for awhile tomorrow. He was supposed to be on MC...

"HUH??! Iron shirt at this time? Very tired..."

But his kind and virtuous wife needed not much persuasion...

I got up and walked to our room where the ironing board was kept... and when I opened the door....

DSCF2333

I got another shock of my night!

The leaders/helpers were hiding in the room, waiting to surprise me with a flaming broccoli!!!

surp

They also bought other vegetables for me as a pleasing sacrifice...

more veh

Here are some behind-the-scenes photos.... Poor them, in the dark and waiting...

bush

After this, they played some MORE hide & seek with poor moi... just for me to get my present! As the saying goes, it's really 'No PAIN, NO GAIN'. Sigh...

Anyway, I am too lazy to blog further, but you could read and view more pics @ Shing's blog!

So to end it all, I want to say

 THANKS!!!

everybody for the love! (:
