Artsy Fartsy ... for a cause

Was at the Sichuan Art Exhibition organized by Citycare today to raise funds for the disaster-hit area and its survivors especially students. The paintings were drawn after the Wenchuan (Sichuan) '5.12' earthquake, many dating June-July 2008. Like what the artist said today at the opening ceremony. That for the artists who painted the pictures, it took much courage for them to paint/sketch/draw their feelings and expressions.

Sun our Ambassador of Love donating her cash and time to the children strickened by the disaster.
She is a courageous childcare teacher who sacrificed her life to save her students. Her parents said she should have been married today...

This picture was painted by the artist 3 months before the earthquake. Now it's all gone...

Schools built temporarily so that the students can continue to study after the earthquake.

The series 'Series of Home' (top picture) drawn by a 9 year old who has passed on in the earthquake. 'Beauty Hometown' (below picture) is painted by an 11 year old girl who was rescued from the debris.

Truly,a picture speaks louder than words.....

ET zone weddings 2008

Finally logged on to Facebook and pulled the photos of meself in all 3 ET zone weddings (May-Jul 2008)! Belated congratulations to Ed Tan+Minghui, Joe+Em & Jared+meself! =)

It's better to give than to receive!

10.30pm
Reached Tampines St. 82... Walked to coffeeshop and met Glad and WQ @ 7-11. Glad was holding a silver balloon. I volunteered to hold it for him, afraid he might be embarassed. Apparently my offer was kindly rejected. Glad has healthy self esteem. So Wilson decided to hold it as well....
11pm
The group size has grown with the addition of Sijia, Richard, Weizi and Yongle. The latter 2 are our Ah Bengs. Hee....
Anyway where is SANDY?? She is holding the cake and the present!
11.10pm
Sandy FINALLY reached. We moved over to Blk 842G's void deck. I thought we could execute our plan but we still had to w-a-i-t. This time for Trudy (the cousin of the victim) and Delphine.
I took pictures of the boys entertaining themselves while we were waiting...
They decided to take a proper picture...
11.15pm
F i n a l l l l y ALL reached. Including Afred who actually was waiting for Glad to study together... Or rather to pia homework overnight together. Trudy made a big card and we had to sign.

11.25pm
NOW NOW NOW.... one holding cake, one holding lighter, one holding balloon, one holding card, one holding flower, a few holding plastic bags, a few carrying presents.... Together we shuffled in unison and quietly up the lift, along the narrow corridor. HAHAHAHA!!! What a sight! I wanted to take a pic of us shuffling. But I was carrying ... something (I can't remember what!).
Outside the door, I ringed the victim's dad. Victim's dad opened the door wide. We sighted the victim. I started to "Happy birthda......" Victim ran into her room! Ala! Made me so paiseh....
We took off our slippers and ran in. Victim came out (she went into her room to comb her hair! So... So ...beautiful...! Haha!) and we "HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU... HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JASSSSMMMIIINNNNNEEEE.... GOD IS BLESSING YOU NOW....!"

We then presented the MANY presents.
  • Flower
  • Balloon
  • Card
  • Earrings - E99
  • Necklace - Sandy, Rich and me
  • Blouse - Delphine & Trudy
  • Something from Sijia & Lester
  • Adidas watch - St Hildas' boys!
When the last item was presented, we all swung around in one accord, at the same time to face WQ and Wahed @ him (our King Koil boy). "Weiqiang Ge, our birthday coming soon!!!! Remember us!!!" HAHAHAHA!
Anyway, Jasmine said (and we could tell) that she felt so blessed. I think there were some tears welling up in my eyes. How true it is that it is more blessed to give than to receive! :)
Anyway, all in all we spent about 40 min @ Jas's house!
Why?? Because we were click click clicking away!!!
Afred learnt something today(from Trudy)...Instead of saying 'cheese!', we can say '西瓜甜不甜?甜!' He kept saying that whenever we took pictures. Um... Afred, you so cute.... ;p
So signing off, we want to say:
HAPPY 13TH BIRTHDAY JASMINE! We LOVE you!!!

Build-A-Bear

I never understood why people liked teddy bears, do you?

When Val asked me to get a bear for Jennie's birthday, I was rather doubtful. Why would any girl like to receive bears and not something practical like clothes or bags or make-up etc...?? ;p

Anyway, I was ordered to get a bear, a CUSTOM-MADE one... from Suntec's Build-A-Bear shop. I remembered walking past the shop with a snigger... It shouldn't last more than 3 months!

So, here I was, walking into the Bear shop alone. Val told me the bear had to be 'the black one'. But but there were so many nice pink ones, polka dotted ones, furry brown ones... !!!

Why the BLACK plain one??

Ok, nevermind. I picked up the black bear.

The next step was to stuff the bear. The sales assistant kindly asked me to step on a pedal which will stuff the bear with fluffy cotton. Before she sealed the back of the bear, she asked me to pick up a red, cotton heart which was to be put into the bear. *Aww, how sweet....

Now, here's the embarrassing part. Without warning, the lady asked me to do the following.... which I obediently did.....

Hold the heart in your hands cupped together

Close your hands

Shake it 3 times to your left

Then shake it 3 times to your right (*Good girrrl*)

Open up your hands

Close your eyes and make a wish (I was almost dying of embarrassment at this point of time.... Hey! This is not going to be my bear anyway! I am just buying a gift and I am NOT a kid, hello??!)

Now open your eyes & blow that wish onto your heart

*O man......... Kill me......

I quickly walked away with my naked, but plump bear. Hope no one saw me. Coast is clear. Only 2 kids with their parents in the store. *Phew?! HAHA!

Ok, now comes the more enjoyable part of this shopping experience. The clothes! Jennie wanted a male teddy bear. And there were so many outfits to choose from!

I called Val again to check which outfit I should get. "Navy uniform? Taekwando attire?" And she said "PLAIN... Plain T-shirt and jeans".

Hmm... OK... It's really going to be a good ol' plain black bear!

There were really many accessories to choose from also. But I really don't believe in spending too much on A BEAR. So, I finished it off with a pair of boots. Not too bad afterall. :)

And while the sales assistant was helping to dress the bear (!), I was guided to a computer to generate the birth cert for the bear. How cool! I had to choose a name.... Quick quick think...

Ah Ben!

HAHA... Please don't ask me why! And no, it's NOT Jared's pet name...

So, here's my finished product. or rather my created masterpiece.

TADA!!!

I had to pay for him at the cashier. And the receipt looked like this....

Bear - $26.90
Shirt - $10.90
Faded Denim Jeans - $12.90
Boots - $14.90
TOTAL - $65.60

WOW! For a bear.....

After the whole thing, Ah Ben is finally going home now.... in a house literally....

What an experience!!! I think the kids would like it better....

Jerb Jogged

Yes... These are my Nike running shoes... and Yes.... these are my feet in them. HAHA! I finally utilized the Bedok Sports stadium despite living so close to it! I am proud to say that I jogged 1.6 km and brisked walked for another 800m. WOW!
Now my legs are aching.... I really do hope I will keep this up! I do feel kinda motivated after today's run though! ;)

Talking about healthy... my cousin brought us to an organic food shop for lunch in M'sia. My cousin thought we would like it since we were rather health conscious. We thought we might like it too... until we saw (& tasted) our food.......

Sushi = Carrot, beancurd, cucumber and something sweet wrapped in kway teow. This... was the BEST dish.

Yea... I can't believe I ordered this. I double can't believe swallowing it.
By the way, it came with soup...... Interested to see how it looked like?

PUKE! I lost my appetite... But I should not waste food right? Then my cousin told me I was supposed to eat my dish like this......

*Puke!
People say I eat bird food just because I eat lots of greens... But wait till they see what I ate that day! YUCKS!

Finally... Dessert..... Thank God it was better than the main dish.. though it was still VERY healthy!
Freshly pounded yam paste with dates and gingko nuts.........................................

Anyway, today was walking around Century Square. @ Starbucks, i realized they don't just sell curry puffs, they sell Ugly Curry Puffs (looks out of shape... smart way for the lazy person to any how make curry puffs without buying/using the mould then sell them with this name) and Uglier Curry Puffs (the bigger version). I wonder if they sell these in the Starbucks in USA.....
Also, I saw a shop with a catchy name!

Ya! Pie Kia (Hokkien word for Hooligan). The menu is also like that. Small pies called Pie Kia, big pies were called Dua Pie Kia (Big Hooligan), drinks called Pie Lim (not nice to drink) Pie Seh (Embarrased), Pie Tan (Unprofitable). Hopefully the pies are not Pie Jia (Not tasty)! HAHA...
