Finally: TAIWAN 101...!!!

I am going to blog about my Taiwan trip...
after TWO weeks...

But before that.... HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR DEAREST (BIG) DANIEL BOY!!! I know it's hard to believe Daniel has officially turned EIGTHEEN! No longer Daniel Boy but... Dan the Man! So proud of him... From an aimless young kid... abit lost, abit attitude... He's now a HELPER in his CG. WOW... It's unbeliveable how God can change lives! Go man!

Enjoy the pictures!

DAY ONE - Sunday 7/10/07

4 LIM-keeters @ the airport... Very happy to go for our 1st family trip overseas!

See this 300ml Polar brand mineral water?? It costs a crazy S$3 on board Jetstar!!!
When we reached TW, the weather was wet and cool. It's quite chilly outside and drizzling cos 'winter' time is coming and the typhoon left TW the day we reached. And, sunset occurs earlier here in TW...at 5pm! By 6pm, it's darkness!
We headed to our RAINBOW MO...i meant HOTEL at Ximending and straightaway chiong to Shilin at 8pm! Yummie food, here we come!!! (My family's favorite past time.. and Jasmine says, "AMEN!")

Sharksfin soup? Dunno wat soup la... But nice and warm and thick!

Jian bao... There's the vege and meat version... SO SO DELICIOUS! It's like a cross between bao and gou tie!

Look at the stall selling.... (I bet u never tried this.... at least in S'pore!) Cold noodles! It's cold yellow mee poured over with delicioius, heavenly peanut sauce and slices of cucumber and some wierd vege. Comes with various degrees of spiciness! Solid ah!

Desserts! (Fr left to right:) 1. Tou hua with 2 toppings 2. Custard biscuit pudding (Yikes! Too sweet!) 3. Jas and her yam FRIED ice-cream! Ma ma mia!

Sausages! Gigantic ones! Really! Don't believe? Let's do a comparison....

See? Humongous! Look at their shocked but hungry looks! Finally, sausages of the right size Jas says....
Glutinuos rice... As normal as S'pore's... Boring....

TW's roadside guava... Soft and sweeeet enough you can eat it on its own! OOoohhhh.....
So the first day, we all became pregnant... with FOOD! Man, all my exercise I've done the last week has went down the TW drain loh.... Sian...

Oh, BTW we saw Liu Gen Hong & Vivi Wang's wedding ceremony held in New Life Church... On TV! They were singing 'Great is our God' (with actions and all!) and we saw Ps Abraham in a flashy orange suit! So solid man!
So heart-warming...

DAY 2 - Monday 8/10/07

Taking pictures on the streets of Ximending, just downstairs our hotel! Then begins our breakfast hunting.... Yes, food again.... BTW, if you go Rainbow Mo... i meant Hotel, you can skip their b'fast. Pathetic.

At this roadside stall...
We bought delicious deliccious (and cheep cheep) fried carrot cake and a ham & cheese egg omelette! Roadside style... So niceeee!

And their equivalent of our famous Donut Factory... Mister Donut!

4 different kinds!
And let me reveal to you where we ate our b'fast....

Along the streets!!! Wah, so lao kui lor... but we thot it's ok since anyone who sees us will probably NEVER see us again! BUAHAHA!

And off we go to Wulai! Hotsprings and nature... Here we come!

Look at my siblings... As if the weather wasn't cold enough... They're TRYING to act cool...

And so we travelled on the train from
to

And travelled by bus (ignoring the many cabbies who tried to persuade us to take their cabs to Wulai, which is up up in the mountains!)

Come let's go!

The streets leading up to the entrance of our hotel .. Moonlake Spa Hotel...

The view from our hotel.

Wild boar meat comes in sausages too!
Roadside stalls at Wulai. The iced, hotspring cooked tea eggs are v v v good! (Centre picture)

And here we are, deciding to go see the Wulai waterfall!

We are going to take an old fashioned train from where we are to the Wulai waterfall. Only 1.6km.
I told you it was OLD-fashioned....

When we reached the waterfall area, we were disappointed to know they only built a platform to overlook the waterfall! We couldn't access the waterfall at all. So sadddd... But we stayed there a while to take some stupid pictures... (Ideas from Daniel Lim...)

Have I told you before?... That I have strange siblings...

And this part very scary... Water crashing down against the rocks... Which part which part? Here...this part....

A Maori restaurant... The pretty, aboriginal waitresses did not want to take pictures with us... :(

After we walked down the 'mountain' for half an hour (instead of taking the expensive short train ride), we decided to check out the public hotspring! Follow Val...!

You know, I've always thought natural hotsprings are like some 1metre wide, round volcano port hole with steaming water inside... But i was WRONG! The people there told us the hotspring is just by the riverside, everywhere! And this river flows right through Wulai... (U saw it above from our hotel view)... But... It's brown water! Yucks!

Here we are! So... so.... public!!! And so steamy looking! How to dip your entire body into water that is 50-70 deg celcius?? *Faint!

The crowd was made up of esp uncles and aunties. They were washing, bathing, soaking...and yes! Cooking their eggs! Hmm...

Guess what we did?...

Sit on the warm rocks... and dip our.... little toes into the trickling water...in 2 secs, out 2 secs, in 2 secs, out 2 secs.... Sio ah! Ouch!

So... Val became frustrated... How can we come to Wulai for the purpose of experiencing the hotsprings and then not do it?!! So we decided. We shalt go back to our hotel room to dip instead! If we scream, no one else can hear us! Buahaha... brilliant, brilliant...

Here's our room's bathtub. We just have to call the hotel reception to activate the hotspring bathe, the waters will pour in this 'tub', filling it with natural hotspring water that is 42-50 deg celcius!
Soon after, we threesome jumped in with our bikinis... (no pics...) So hot! So hot! We concluded. We DO NOT like hotsprings.
So after a brief soaking... we showered and went for dinner! At one of the aboriginal coffeeshops! So interesting! We must try the wild boar meat that we saw along our way just now!
(Fr top left: Boiled ginger chicken soup (i don't like ginger), wild boar meat and garlic stir-fried mountain vege (quite tasty... wild boar meat taste like a cross betw chicken and beef), us posing in the restaurant)
The food was very home-cooked but rather pricey. We guess this whole place is mainly for tourist. And rather boring... So after dinner, we bought snacks(Argh! Food again!) and went back to the hotel room to...feast again....
And btw, TW's 7-11 is more interesting and well-stocked than ours here in sg! I like their b'fast food... cereal packed with milk! My favorite!!!
So here in Wulai, we ate at 6-7pm, went back to the hotel room to sleep at 7pm (probably the 1st time in our lives we slept at such unearthly hours! Never again we guess!). Woke up again at 10pm, eat and watched cable TV till 1am.... Wat a life...
Day 3 - Tuesday 9/10/07... to 5 - Thursday 11/10/07...
Oh, we can't wait to get out of Wulai, back to TP to shop shop shop!
So, here we are, posing at the side of the road after lunch near WUFENPU... probably the Bugis St of SG! Ready, get set, GO!
We shopped alot here after... (Yes, I am tired of blogging liao)... Day 4 and half of 5 was spent eating and shopping...
We shopped at Wufenpu(The best!), Shilin (2nd best!), Tonghua Jie (I don't like) & Ximending ( I feel nothing really much) (My opinions!)
I must say, the people in Taipei are soooo fashionable!!!

The 3 did their hair at a salon at Gongguan... (Jas and Val dyed their hair 2 colors at about $150 each. Dan cut his hair FOC... um, they forgot to collect and we forgot to pay!)
The very camera shy Val... keke...
We ate and ate and ate. Good food at these night markets: Shilin (many roadside stalls!), Raohe (the most smelly street... cos the most potent smelling smelly toufu are sold here) and Tonghua Jie.

We did not try this...
Duck's tongue and touhua pudding

MSG laden fried chicken and sotong... DELICIOUS! And chunky beef noodles
Melted, half eaten, yummiest Xue Pian! Ice grinded/shaved together with milk, in different flavours! Ice Kachang is NOTHING compared to it!
Us eating outside the beef noodle roadside stall, which happens to be outside a temple too.
The night markets start from 11+am and open till 1-2 am! Shiok! Every night eat and shop till closing!
Overall, I feel TW is just a great place to shop and eat. Nothing v fantastic. BUT, wherever the place is, vacationing and relaxing together with my fun-loving, like-minded family, is dee BEST! The $ is worth spending! Luv ya guys!!! :))
